Track And Field Opens Season in New York


NEW YORK, N.Y. – For the third-straight year, Rutgers track and field opened its indoor season at the historic Armory Track and Field Complex in New York City. The Scarlet Knights posted 12 personal records across nine events to highlight a solid first outing on Friday.
 
The day featured 17 first-place finishes. On the men’s side, Rutgers earned five wins on the track. Daniel Duncan won the 60-meter with a time of 6.84, while Yashahya Brown finished first in the 60-meter hurdles in 7.86. Shamali Whittle and Greg McQueen went 1-3 in the 300-meter with Whittle winning the event in 33.45, followed by McQueen in 34.47.  
 
Lathan Brown finished first in the 400-meter, running a PR 48.36, followed by Bryce Tucker in second in 48.40 and Joshua Babe in third in 48.67. Johnny Scalia won the 800-meter in 1:54.57, followed by Damani Brown in second in 1:56.00.
 
The men’s squad won three field events, including a PR and first-place finish for Foluso Adedeji in the high jump, clearing 2.06m (6′ 9″). Donavan Anderson took first in the triple jump with a distance of 15.71m (51′ 6.5″). A 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault rounded out the performances for the men with Brian O’Sullivan leading the way in first as he cleared a height of 5.22m (17′ 1.5″) in the fewest attempts. Kevin O’Sullivan also cleared 5.22m (17′ 1.5″) to finish second, followed by Noah Kriesman in third with a height of 5.02m (16′ 5.5″).
 
The women’s team scored four first-place finishes on the track, guided by Azariah Grantham in the 200-meter with a time of 24.88. She also placed second in the 60-meter running 7.53. Celine-Jada Brown won the 300-meter in 38.68, while Paige Floriea finished first in the 400-meter in 56.72. Jenai Berry took first in the 800-meter with a PR time of 2:16.39. Anabella Chin also ran a personal-best in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking 8.76.
 
Jenovia Logan added a win in the high jump, clearing 1.78m (5′ 10″), followed by Alanna Woolfolk who finished third (1.71m/5′ 7.25″). The long jump was a 1-2 finish for the Scarlet Knights as Kristina Tossas won the event with a leap of 6.10m (20′ 0.25″), while Paige Floriea placed second with jump of 6.03m (19′ 9.5″). Faith Bethea won the triple jump, recording a distance of 12.29m (40′ 4″).
