SPOKANE, Wash. (Dec. 14, 2024) — Washington State men’s and women’s track and field teams combined for nine wins and set 28 personal bests to highlight the Cougars first full team indoor event at the Spokane Invitational Track and Field meet Saturday at The Podium.
On the women’s side, Micaela De Mello (60m, 7.46), Brooke Lyons (300m, 38.82), Riley Pyeatt (Mile, 5:07.08) and Tatum Moku (Pole Vault, 4.32m – 14-02.00) all came away with event wins, while Mason Lawyer (60m, 6.57), John Paredes (60m Hurdles, 7.71), Grant Buckmiller (300m, 32.73), Eli Lawrence (Triple Jump, 14.55m – 47-09.00) and Kai Twaddle-Dunham (Shot Put, 16.46m – 54-00.00) won on the men’s side.
In addition to the individual wins and personal bests, WSU athletes posted 15 Top-10 marks in school history, including Buckmiller lowering his school-record in the 300m to 32.73, while Lawyer posted the second-fastest time in the event at 33.11. In that same event on the women’s side, Lyons time of 38.82 marked the second-fastest in program history.
Washington State student-athletes will continue training through a one-month break in competition as it looks ahead to a split weekend between The Podium in Spokane and the Dempsey Indoor facility in Seattle. The Cougar Classic Invitational is the Cougs’ next meet on Friday, Jan. 17, followed by the UW Preview on Sat., Jan. 18.
