Our book suggestion for the New Year is Pre! America’s Greatest Running Legend, by Tom Jordan
The Pre! book has been one of my favorites since college. I have gone through 3 copies! The newest version, edited and written by Tom Jordan, and published by Rodale Press (publishers of Runners World magazine for many years), showcases the incredible talent and the complexity of the American distance runner, who took 4th in the Olympics in 1972 at the 5,000m, set ARs from 2 miles to 10,000m, and was killed in a car crash in 1975. Tom Jordan, besides writing the book, managed the NIKE Pre-Classic for most of its 45 years!

Get inspired by Steve Prefontaine. Steve had goals. In his four years in college, he never missed a day of training! Pre’s secret sauce was his consistency. Have you build a plan for 2025? Ask you coach to sit down and prepare some training goals.
I used to put postcards taped to my mirror with times I wanted for each year, like 2:06, 4:30, 10:00 in high school. In college, I put 4:25, 9:30, 15:00, 31:20. I surpassed some and missed others. Dream a little!
Other book suggestions: Self Made Olympian, by Ron Daws, , A Clean Pair of Heels by Murray Halberg, , Pre! by Tom Jordan.
