Extine Lowers School Record on Day One of Corky Classic


LUBBOCK, Texas – Arizona Track & Field posted strong marks to open the Corky Classic at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center Friday.
 
In a very competitive field, the Wildcats advanced to a handful of running event finals and saw personal bests in the field and on the track. Zach Extine highlighted day one of competition for the Wildcats, lowering his school record time in the men’s 60m hurdles after originally breaking it last week.

DAY ONE

FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

In the men’s weight throw, Zach Landa finished fourth with a throw of 65-0.75 (19.83m) and Michael Ogbeiwi placed fifth with a personal-best heave of 62-10 (19.15m). Youssef Koudssi and Sam Hala’ufia finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Tyler Michelini won the B section of the event.

 

In the women’s weight throw, Tapenisa Havea placed seventh with a personal best heave of 57-0.75 (17.39m), breaking her previous best from last week. Mackenna Orie also placed ninth in the event.

 

TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

After breaking the school record in the men’s 60m hurdles last week, Zach Extine kept the momentum going in the event today. In the first round of the hurdles, Extine clocked a time of 7.76, just 0.02 off his school record, to win his heat and post the second-fastest overall time, advancing to the event’s semi-finals. In the event’s semi-finals, Extine lowered his 60m hurdles school record time to 7.66, advancing to the event’s finals with the fourth fastest time of the day. He also won his heat. In the event’s finals, Extine matched his personal best and school record time of 7.66 again to finish runner-up in the event. Additionally, Yan Vazquez ran a personal best time of 8.14 and Bogdan Vidojkovic clocked a time of 8.25 in his Wildcat debut.

 

In the first round of the men’s 60m, Trayvion White-Austin clocked a time of 6.68 to finish sixth and advance to the event’s semi-finals. In the event’s semi-finals, White-Austin finished eighth with a time of 6.70 to take the last spot and advance to the event’s finals. In the event’s finals, White-Austin clocked a time of 6.71 to place fifth overall….
