Spartans Capture Three Podium Finishes at Crossroads of America Invitational


INDIANAPOLIS – Three podium finishes highlighted a successful weekend for the Michigan State track & field team at the Crossroads of America Invitational in Indianapolis. 

Elle Adrian got the Spartans going on Friday in the women’s weight throw. She tied her personal best last week of 21.39m to finish third, although she was the top collegiate athlete. Valadian Pallett finished fifth with a throw of 20.88m. 

On the track, Logan Allen continued his hot start to the indoor season, advancing to the finals of the 60m hurdles. He finished second overall and was the top collegiate running with a time of 8.02. He just missed out on the finals in the 60m, finishing ninth in 6.92. Landon Cosby also set a new PR in the men’s pole vault (5.04m).   

In the 600m, Elizabeth Anderson set a new personal best with a time of 1:35.62 to finish 12th. 

The Spartans kicked off action on the track Saturday with Allen, who turned in a time of 8.09 to finish fourth in the 60m hurdles final. MSU also captured a podium finish in the men’s 400m with a second-place, 47.00 showing from Noah Sage.  

In the women’s Saturday sprints, Alexys Wilson finished 17th in the 400m with a season-best time of 56.34.  

The Spartans registered a pair of top-10 finishes in the women’s shot put with Jessica Stieb putting up a 16.19m throw to finish fifth and a 14.40m PR from Rylan Finstrom in ninth. On the men’s side, Dillon Morlock took runner-up honors with a throw of 18.36m, just 0.01m shy of his PR, while Colby Morlock finished eighth with a 17.34m mark.  

Leila Barmore was MSU’s lone competitor in the women’s horizontal jumps on Saturday. She set an indoor personal best of 12.62m to finish fourth. In the women’s pole vault, Natalie Blake and Sophia Mettes both cleared 3.94m to place 11th and 12th, respectively. 

Brady Schultz put up the highest finish for the Spartans in the men’s jumps with a fifth-place, 2.04m clearance in the high jump. Jalen Nelson set an indoor personal best in the triple jump, leaping to a 14.14m mark. 

MSU wrapped up the weekend with top-10 showings in both the men’s and women’s 4×400 relays. The Spartans’ team of Wilson, Anderson, Gabrielle Jeffries and Melanie Macias finished eighth on the women’s side with a time of 3:51.54, while the men’s team of Henry Shaieb, Terrence Muex, Cameron Cheetam, Sean Mullen…
