INDIANAPOLIS – For the third-straight week, Rutgers track and field turned in a pair of school records, closing out a successful weekend at the Crossroads of America Invitational in Indianapolis. Brian O’Sullivan reset his record in the pole vault on Friday, January 24, while Donavan Anderson established a new record in the triple jump on Saturday, January 25, the final day of competition.
The two-day meet featured a top level of competition, including several Big Ten schools. The Scarlet Knights earned first-place finishes in six events and a total of 13 performances in the top three.
O’Sullivan made it three weeks in a row that he raised the Rutgers standard in the pole vault, originally breaking a 23-year-old record on January 11. He established the new mark Friday, clearing the bar with a winning height of 5.49m (18′ 0″). Anderson added the team’s second school record on Saturday as he won the triple jump with a distance of 16.12m (52′ 10.75″), breaking the previous record set in 2019.
Highlighting the weekend on the men’s side was Chris Serrao who won the 60-meter hurdles in 7.93, while Lathan Brown and Gavin Richards finished runner-up in their respective events. Brown took second in the 600-meter in 1:20.98 and Richards placed second in the mile with a time of 4:05.93. Richards also joined Bryce Tucker, Robert Poplau and Brian Pedretti in the distance medley, winning the event with a time of 9:58.37.
Kevin O’Sullivan placed third in the pole vault, clearing a height of 5.29m (17′ 4.25″), followed by Nico Morales in fourth with a height of 5.19m (17′ 0.25″).
On the women’s side, Rutgers won two field events with Chloe Timberg in the pole vault and Celine-Jada Brown in the long jump. Timberg cleared a height of 4.44m (14′ 6.75″) to earn a tie for first in the event, while Brown recorded a jump of 6.15m (20′ 2.25″) to pick up her win. Kristina Tossas placed second in the long jump with a distance of 6.14m (20′ 1.75″).
Shelbey Whetstone starred on the track, finishing second in a pair of races, first running a time of 1:32.31 in the 600-meter, then placing runner-up in the 800-meter with a time of 2:09.61. Jenovia Logan finished third in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.77m (5’…
