PHILADELPHIA – Another pair of records fell on Saturday as the Maryland track and field team finished its competition at the Penn Relays. Both the men’s and women’s 4×800 meter relay teams set new program standards bringing the weekend total to four new records set.
The women’s 4×800 team of Katie Turk, Katerina Talanova, Emma Pegg, and Kami Joi Hickson combined to clock 8 minutes, 42.42 seconds for an eighth-place overall finish. The new time was 0.54 seconds faster than the previous mark set at the 2023 Penn Relays.
They were followed by the men’s 4×800 squad of Jack Barchet, Isaiah Chapman, Max Worley, and Eric Albright who placed 10thoverall with a time of 7 minutes, 27.07 seconds. That mark was nearly four seconds faster than the old record which was also set at the 2023 Penn Relays.
It was the second record of the weekend for Albright, Worley, and Barchet who were also members of the distance medley relay team. On the women’s side, it was the second record set this weekend for Hickson who ran the third leg of the 4×400 relay team.
