Julien Alfred all set for Zagreb

Early season test for Olympic 100m gold medallist at the Hanzekovic Memorial and Continental Tour Gold meeting in Croatia

Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred tests her speed in the 200m at the debut at the Hanzekovic Memorial in Zagreb on Saturday (May 24).

The St Lucian athlete was close to her PB with 21.88 in Gainesville recently and will be favourite to win here at this World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event.

A number of Brits have made the journey over to Zagreb. They include 800m runners Issy Boffey, Erin Wallace, Ethan Hussey and Justin Davies plus 1500m runner Ava Lloyd.

The latter is in a tough race led by Gudaf Tsegay, who is running her first outdoor 1500m of 2025 after having won the world indoor title in Nanjing impressively in 3:54.86.

All eyes will be on the women’s discus as home favourite and multiple world and Olympic champion Sandra Elkasevic is in action and going for her 12th victory at this meeting.

Another Croatian thrower, Sara Kolak, is in the women’s javelin.

On Thursday night in Zagreb, a men’s shot put was won by Payton Otterdahl of the United States with 21.71m with Tom Walsh of New Zealand throwing the same distance, whereas Friday night sees a women’s high jump featuring Angelina Topic of Serbia and Lamara Distin of Jamaica.
