We can only hope that the weather during the next few weeks of the 2025 track and field improves to above 50 degree temperatures and somewhat drier conditions. But for those CIAC teams and athletes who have competed under the harsh conditions we have seen some great performances by several athletes over the first several days at invitationals and conference meets.

During the week of April 5 through the 12th some of the conference and invitational meet performance highlights included:

The Lyme-Old Lyme team braved the miserable conditions at the Bellringer Invitational on April 5th at East Hampton high school as their boys and girls teams performances featured a school record in the 800m by junior Chase Gilbert in 2:12.89 while sophomore Patrick Lynch soared to a 21-11 leap to win the long jump. (RESULTS)

On that same opening weekend, senior Matthew Kraszewski of Hale Ray returned to the Pirate Relays in Pearl River NY to defend his 3k steeplechase title with a win in 10:06.01. (RESULTS)

Simsbury’s Marshall Potter tossed a school record 166-3 in their home meet with Conard on April 8th. The only thing that prevented Potter from recording a further distance was the boundary fence at 170 feet. (RESULTS)

On the same day in Stafford in an NCCC meet with Somers and Rockville, the RAMs Thomas Bannon unleashed a javelin throw of 185-3, less than 10 feet under his PR toss from last year that won the State Open. (RESULTS)

Indoor record setter Brooke Strauss of Glastonbury, sped to a CT #3 all time finish in the 3200m of 10:16.52 in a tri-meet at East Hartford with East Catholic on Thursday April 10th. (RESULTS)

On Saturday at Icahn Stadium in NY the New York Relays featured three CT athletes in the top spots as Hale Ray’s Matthew Kraszewski earned his second win in a week in the 2k steeplechase with his PR of 6:19.03. Oxford senior Joseph Deluise placed 4th in his PR of 6:32.71. The girls 1mile was highlighted by a PR by Sophie Passalacqua of Greenwich as she finished 4th in 5:12.40.  (RESULTS)
