TRACK PREVIEW: Clemson Opener / Sharon-Colyear Danville Season Opener


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee’s 2022-23 indoor track & field campaign begins this weekend with a host of Big Orange distance runners splitting up for the Clemson Opener (Clemson, S.C.) and Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener (Boston, Mass.).

The action begins Friday afternoon at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex with Tennessee’s seven entries in the men’s and women’s 800-meter run. Carolyn Barksdale and Maia Stewart are set to compete in the first women’s heat at approximately 3:50 p.m. ET before Kameron HelmlingerJoe HootsAlex KayWill Mazur and Michael Rodriguez-King toe the line at 4:00.

Friday will mark Rodriguez-King’s collegiate debut after a standout prep career for Susan E. Wagner High School in Staten Island, New York.

 

The Clemson Opener will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, available to subscribers via TV provider login at espn.com/watch or the ESPN app. Live results are provided by AdkinsTrak Timing Associates.

 

Tennessee’s opening weekend wraps up with a pair of long-distance specialists heading to Boston University for the Sharon-Colyear Danville Season Opener on Saturday. Fresh off an All-American cross country campaign, Yaseen Abdalla will make his Volunteer debut on the track in the men’s 3,000-meter run at approximately 3:13 p.m. The Lanham, Maryland, native enters the meet with a personal-best time of 7:51.59 over the 3k distance, nearly eight seconds quicker than the current school record.

 

Graduate student Jasmine Fehr will conclude the weekend for Tennessee, running the women’s 5,000-meter at 4:30 p.m. for her first indoor track competition since January 2020.

 

The Sharon-Colyear Danville Season Opener will be broadcasted online via FloTrack, with live results provided by Lancer Timing Services.

 

The Big Orange track & field programs return to action after the holiday break with the Clemson Invitational, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13-14.
