COLORADO SPRINGS — The University of Colorado track and field senior Tyler Sconce led the way here Friday in the first day of the Colorado Running Company Pre-Holiday Open and Multi with a win in the men’s weight throw.
Sconce picked up his second win of the season, throwing 18.95 meters (62-2.25) for the win. Lars Atkinson finished fifth in the event throwing 15.89 meters (52-1.75).
The CU men also had Aidan Christiansen place 10th in both the 60-meter dash in 7.09 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 6.61 meters (21-8.25).
Colorado also had a large list of multis competing today in the pentathlon and heptathlon. Avery McMullen led the way finishing fourth in the heptathlon with 3,933 points followed by Jada Green in fifth, freshman Eva Bruce in sixth, Allie Routledge in seventh and Riley Burkey in 11th with 3,098 points.
McMullen started the day winning the 60 hurdles in 8.52, followed closely by Green in 8.57. McMullen went 5.90 meters (19-4.25) in the long jump to place in a tie for second while Eva Bruce jumped 5.85m (19-2.5) for fifth. Bruce went on to win the 800 finishing in 2:24.08 ahead of Allie Routledge who ran 2:26.27.
The men were led in the first day of the heptathlon by Troy Colleran who finished the four events in sixth with 2,937 points. Nick Bianco rounded out the top-10 with 2,733 points.
Action continues tomorrow with the shot put and the conclusion of the heptathlon.
