Blue Devils Knock Down Two School Records, Sets Nine Top-Five Program Marks Friday


CLEMSON, S.C. – Duke track and field opened its split weekend in style as the Blue Devils shattered school records in the women’s 60m dash and women’s 400m and set nine top-five program marks across the first day of competition at the Tiger Paw Invitational and Music City Challenge on Friday.

  • Senior Halle Bieber got the record-breaking party started in the preliminary round of the women’s 60m dash.
  • Competing amid a loaded field, Bieber broke her own school record in the event with a personal-best dash of 7.41 seconds.
  • Freshman Lauren Tolbert and sophomore Megan McGinnis followed that up soon after with spectacular performances of their own in the women’s 400m as the pair obliterated the previous school record en route to inserting themselves into the top two spots on the Duke list.
  • Tolbert grabbed the top spot on the all-time Duke 400m charts with a time of 52.59 seconds while McGinnis was right behind her with a dash of 52.67 seconds to put herself No. 2 in program lore.
  • The Blue Devils also tallied a pair of top-five program marks in the men’s and women’s long jump behind strong performances from sophomore Max Forte and graduate student Isabel Wakefield.
  • Wakefield improved her No. 4 all-time Duke mark by flying out to 6.20m (20-4.25 feet) on her second attempt. On the men’s side, Forte’s best showing came on his second attempt via a jump of 7.26m (23-10.00 feet) – improving his No. 5 Duke mark.

The Duke athletes competing in South Carolina weren’t the only ones having fun, as the Blue Devils tallied four more top-five program times down in Nashville.
 
 
MUSIC CITY CHALLENGE – NASHVILLE, TENN.

  • Graduate students Karly Forker and James Lee turned in standout performances in the men’s and women’s mile run, respectively.
  • Lee delivered a sub-four-minute mile for the second time this season and lowered his No. 2 all-time program mark with a run of 3:59.02. On the women’s side, Forker etched her name in the Duke record books as she recorded the fourth-fastest time in program lore, clocking 4:39.41 to place fifth in…
