SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah track & field team returns home to hosts its annual Utah Spring Classic this weekend (April 7-8) at the McCarthey Family Track & Field Complex.

OFF THE BLOCKS
With the annual home meet on deck, the Utes will only have the jumps crew compete on Friday, April 7, while the rest of the track squad competes on Saturday, April 8. In addition to the usual competition, there will also be a Kid’s Race at approximately 2:10 p.m. (MT).
In addition, the Women of Utah will honor their 12 seniors this season beginning at 3:45 p.m. (MT) on the east side of the track just ahead of the finish line.
VENTERS MAKES HISTORY
Utah senior Emily Venters did not hold back last Friday, March 31, at the Stanford Invitational as she etched herself into NCAA track & field history. The Lawrence, Kans., native went out and ran the sixth-fastest 10,000m time in NCAA history when she crossed the finish line at 31:48.35. She also became the eighth collegian to run a sub-32 while also smashing the Utah and Pac-12 records in that event.
Venters was then named the Pac-12 Track Athlete of the Week for her historic run in the 10k at the Stanford Invitational and became just the fifth Ute to earn the honor since joining the league in 2011-12.

WEEKEND REWIND
In addition to Venters’ historic weekend, the Utes also saw five other changes in the school record book. In her first outdoor race of the year since Pac-12 Championships last season, Bella Williams had a brilliant performance down the stretch to secure the sixth-fastest 5,000m time in Utah history with a run of 16:00.24. Simone Plourde improved her all-time mark in the Utah record book with a time of 4:14.24 in the 1500m race – which was good for third all-time.
