(theACC.com) – North Carolina’s Parker Wolfe is the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Duke’s Brianna Smith and NC State’s Grace Hartman are the league’s Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Co-Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Wolfe won the 5,000-meter run national championship at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, breaking the line in a meet-record time of 13:54.43. Wolfe, now an eight-time All-American, earned his first national championship after notching two runner-up finishes at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships earlier this year. Throughout the 2023-24 cross country and track and field seasons, the junior from Denver, Colorado, won five ACC championships, set four school records, and earned four First-Team All-America honors. Wolfe became the first outdoor national champion at North Carolina since Justin Ryncavage, who won the javelin throw in 2007.
Wolfe is the first student-athlete from North Carolina to be named Scholar-Athlete of the Year in outdoor track and field. The junior is studying Exercise & Sport Science. He was also named to the All-ACC Academic Teams for indoor track and field and cross country throughout his phenomenal junior year.
Smith proved to be a dominant force for the Blue Devils throughout the 2024 outdoor track and field season. At the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Smith finished second in the heptathlon and eighth in the high jump, earning a pair of All-ACC honors. She was also a USTFCCCA honorable mention All-American in the heptathlon after finishing 21st at the national meet. Smith also owns the Duke school record in the indoor high jump and sits inside the top-five of two other program marks.
Smith is a senior at Duke who is studying biology. The standout on the track also stands out in the classroom, posting a 3.925 semester GPA. In the spring of 2022, Smith was also named to the Dean’s List at Duke. Smith has landed on the All-ACC Academic Team on seven occasions, including all four seasons in which she competed in outdoor track and field.
