Sport/Country: Men’s Track and Field (4x400m Relay) – United States 

Olympic Games: 1988 Seoul, 1992 Barcelona | 2012 London (Head Coach)

Andrew Valmon competed for the United States in the 4x400m relay at the 1988 Seoul and 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, earning gold at both appearances. He also competed at the 1991 and 1993 World Championships, placing fifth in the 400 at the 1991 Worlds and winning a gold medal in the relay in 1993. In 1992 (Olympics) and 1993 (World), Valmon ran on 4×4 relay teams that broke the world record. In 1993, Valmon set his personal best of 44.28 seconds in the 400

In addition to his Olympic appearances as an athlete, Valmon served as the men’s head U.S. Olympic track coach for the 2012 London Olympics. The U.S. men’s team received 13 medals in track and field, including four gold medals. He also coached internationally at the 2008 NACAC Championship, 2009 World Outdoor Championships, and 2010 World Indoor Championships.

Valmon attended Seton Hall University, where he had a best finish at the NCAA meet of fifth in the 400 in 1987. He later became the track coach at Georgetown University from 1999-2003. In 2003, Valmon began coaching at the University of Maryland. 

During Valmon’s tenure, more than 50 student-athletes have earned All-American honors for their athletic performances. More than 50 school records have been established since Valmon took the helm.
