Rai Benjamin, Olympic champion, 400 meter hurdles, Olympic champion, 4x400m relay: How he got there, the RBR Interview from Archives (March 2023)

Rai Benjamin, A Conversation with the Olympic/World Championship silver medalist at the 400 meter hurdles, the RunBlogRun Interview

Rai Benjamin’s long-awaited victory in Paris is a testament to his unwavering determination and relentless pursuit of excellence.

After four years of relentless pursuit, Rai Benjamin’s perseverance paid off in Paris. He claimed the gold in the 400m hurdles, a feat that had eluded him in both Worlds and Olympics. His victory was all the more impressive as he outpaced Karsten Warholm, the world record holder, who settled for silver.

The 4×400 m relay was a battle Rai Benjamin was ready for. He faced off against Letsile Tebogo, who gave his all to defeat Benjamin. The race was intense, but in the end, Benjamin’s determination and skill were just too much for Tebogo to overcome.

It’s important to understand the sheer intensity of the 400-meter hurdles, a race that has been mastered. With ten hurdles to overcome, it’s one of the toughest races in our sport. Yet, in Paris, Rai made it look effortless, dominating his final and reaching the top.

This interview is from March 2023; please enjoy!

This interview was done in March 2023. As in the past six pre-pandemic years, Global Athletics & Marketing had the forethought to put together a couple of days of interviews for some of the track and field’s global media. Twenty-six athletes gave interviews to a group of new, veteran, and not-so-veteran media. Some media were preparing for text stories, audio, and video, and some, like RunBlogRun, with a combination of presentations.

RunBlogRun sincerely believes that a media rich in diversity is critical to the success of our sport. For example, the various approaches to bespoke track meets during the pandemic and the incredible diversity in streaming video have enriched our sport.

RunBlogRun has been, since 2006, most fortunate to work with over 40 writers and photographers, bringing new views into the sport, but also on a platform that gives the most enthusiastic of media a global platform.

We are not People magazine. We do not track gossip; we use social media to share our stories, photo galleries, and commentary on the sport.

In that light, we ask you to watch the interview of Rai Benjamin.

On March 8-9, 2023, I interviewed 25 athletes from Global Athletics. You will begin to see them pop up on our sites, FB, Twitter, and IG. We will provide video versions, audio versions, and text…
