TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In the first of two competitions this weekend for Tennessee cross country, Christopher Middleton-Pearson and Caroline Lyerly led the way for the Vols and No. 15 Lady Vols at the Crimson Classic.
In the men’s 8K, the Vols placed third in the team standings with 63 points, while the women finished the 6K seventh with 174 points.
Middleton-Pearson logged his second top-5 placement of the season for the Vols, finishing the Harry Pritchett Running Course in 23:25.3. Gabriel Sanchez was hot on his heels, crossing the line in 23:37.1 in ninth place.
Zach Jaeger gave UT a third Vol in the top 15 as he placed 13th at 23:55.5. Aaron Jones (23:59.6) and Hudson Betts (24:00.8) finished back-to-back in 18th and 19th place, respectively, to round out Tennessee’s top five.
In the women’s race, Lyerly was the top finisher for the Lady Vols – placing 11th at 20:06.7. Freshman Teegan Anderson was 35th at 20:43.2, while Lauren Rutlin crossed 42nd with a time of 20:50.8.
Jaylee Wingate (21:06.6) and Ella Johnson (21:10.4) placed 45th and 53rd to close out the top five.
UP NEXT
The Lady Vols will race on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals in Madison. The race will give the women a preview for the NCAA National Championships which will be held at the same course in just five weeks.
