Eilish McColgan has been handed a special award to recognise her achievement in being selected for four Olympics – and her compassion when supporting stricken Paris team-mate Megan Keith.

The Eric Liddell 100 made the presentation to Eilish as they reflected on the centenary of the Scottish athletics legend’s gold medal moment in Paris in 1924.

Current endurance athlete, Luke Davidson, was also singled out as the scottishathletics pick from our 20 Eric Liddell 100 Recognition Award winners to attend the celebration Dinner in Edinburgh and meet Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal.

The Eric Liddell 100, which is led by The Eric Liddell Community, partnered with four other organisations – scottishathletics, Youthlink Scotland, Scottish Rugby, and Scottish Disability Sport to honour individuals who have demonstrated the charity’s core values of passion, compassion, and integrity.

Throughout the year, 100 individuals have been recognised with ‘Eric Liddell Recognition Awards,’ receiving a unique pin badge and certificate.

Each of the five organisations has also nominated one individual to attend the ‘National Eric Liddell Awards’ with Jamie Murchie from Largs Academy nominated by Scottish Rugby, Luke Davidson of Inverness Harriers nominated by scottishathletics, Orlagh MacIver from the Black Isle nominated by Youthlink Scotland, Andy Biggar from Edinburgh nominated by The Eric Liddell Community, and Ron McArthur, from Forth Valley nominated by Scottish Disability Sport.

And Eilish was picked out to mark becoming the first Scot ever in track, field and marathon to compete at four Olympics and then deliver that memorable moment when she embraced Megan at the end of a gruelling 10,000m final for both.

‘In the centenary year of Eric’s double medal success in Paris 1924, Eilish McColgan wrote her name into Scottish Olympic history after becoming the first Scottish track and field athlete to compete in four Olympic Games,’ said Colin Hutchison, our chief executive.
