Irish Squads Sweep NCAA Great Lakes Regional Races – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Official Athletics Website

NORTON, Ohio – The Notre Dame women’s and men’s cross country teams both captured first place at the 2024 NCAA Great Lakes Regional at Silver Creek Metro Park on Friday, marking the first podium sweep for the Irish since 2021. By virtue of their podium finishes, both programs punched their tickets to the 2024 NCAA Championship races next week.

WOMEN’S RACE

The No. 6 Irish women captured their fourth-consecutive Great Lakes Regional championship with a team score of 51 to finish 46 points ahead of the rest of the field.

Siona Chisholm was near the front of the field from start to finish and ran her best NCAA regional time of her career with a 19:35.1 in the 6k event to capture third place overall. Erin Strzelecki was two seconds back of Chisholm with a 19:37.8 for fifth for her best NCAA regional effort. Mary Bonner Dalton put three Irish in the top ten with a 19:49.2 for ninth place. Isabel Allori ran a 19:56.2 for 14th, and Gretchen Farley secured the team score with a 20th place finish in a time of 20:03.9. All five of the scoring runners for the Irish women earned All-Region honors for their performances.

Reagan Riley ran a 20:21.6 to place 28th, and Caroline Lehman posted a 20:51.0 for 60th for the Irish.

MEN’S RACE

The No. 19 Irish men were bolstered by a pair of top ten individual finishes to claim their first NCAA Great Lakes Regional championship since the 2021 season after posting a team score of 70. Notre Dame claimed the title by a 12-point margin over No. 9 ranked Wisconsin.

Carter Solomon stayed in the top ten throughout the race to help pace the Irish to the win. The senior posted a time of 29:22.9 in the 10k race to place fifth overall. Ethan Coleman and Daelen Ackley also stayed close to the lead throughout the race with Coleman taking tenth (29:28.9) and Ackley claiming 13th (29:33.8).
