Cross country: East League in Dundee, Student Sport in Aberdeen

Morag Millar (Central) and Logan Rees (Fife AC), who will both run for Scotland at next Saturday’s UK Cross Country Challenge at Liverpool, won their respective Senior Races at the East XC league meeting at Camperdown Park, Dundee on Saturday.

Central AC won the Senior Men race and seem on track to retain the league championship shield.

Edinburgh AC won the Senior Women team race however Corstorphine who were second team stay in first place for the Women’s championship

Edinburgh almost completed a clean sweep at the Scottish Student XC Championships.

On a cold sunny day, Scottish students raced on the firm going of Balgownie Playing Fields, Aberdeen.

In the Women’s race the field soon spread out with Emily McNicol Glasgow, Emily Shaw Edinburg and Caitlyn Heggie Edinburgh leading at the end of the first lap. Emily Shaw pushed ahead heading Emily and then Caitlyn at the finish. 34 students completed the race.

Team results were: Edinburgh first, Glasgow second and Strathclyde third.

In the Men’s race the leading pack of 10 was dominated by Edinburgh runners with four interlopers from Stirling, Scottish Rural College and Robert Gordons.

At the finish, Matt Knowles led Edinburgh to an unassailable team award with Conor Gourley in third, Lucas Cairns in fourth and Chris Bain in fifth. The full house was split by Ryan Martin Stirling in second. There were 84 finishers.

Team results were: First Edinburgh, second Stirling and Glasgow third.
