Highlights | World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 | Day 5

Noah Lyles confirmed his impressive pedigree as he blew the opposition away to win men’s 200m gold at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha. He finished in 19.83s to earn the title, with Andre De Grasse adding 200m silver to the 100m silver he earned earlier in the championships. A superb run from Ecuadorian Alex Quinonez saw him claim bronze.

The men’s 800m saw Donavan Brazier set a new championships record of 1:42.34s as the American won gold. Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Amel Tuka finished with a season’s best and a silver medal, with Kenyan Ferguson Rotich picking up the bronze.

In the men’s pole vault, Sam Kendricks and Armand Duplantis went head-to-head, with the American Kendricks just prevailing to retain his World Championships title. The duo thrilled the fans with some last-gasp clearances, and they were joined on the podium by Poland’s Piotr Lisek.

History was made in the women’s javelin as Kelsey-Lee Barber became the first Australian to win a javelin gold medal. She left it late, but earned the title with her final throw of the competition. Chinese duo Liu Shiying and Lyu Huihui won silver and bronze respectively.
