Aquilla Breaks Collegiate Shot Put Record, Defends National Title – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s track and field team sits sixth with 10 points after the first day of women’s competition at the NCAA Championships on Thursday. Adelaide Aquilla earned those 10 points by winning the shot put championship and breaking the collegiate record.

FIELD FINALS RESULTS

  • Adelaide Aquilla won the NCAA Championship in the shot put and defended her 2021 outdoor title. Aquilla broke the collegiate record and her own program record with a best throw of 19.64m. She had the top-four throws in the competition and beat the runner-up by more than one meter.

FINALS QUALIFIERS

  • Anavia Battle broke her own school record in the 200m semifinals to finish fourth overall (22.26) and secure her spot in the finals.
  • The 4x100m relay squad (Yanique Dayle, Anavia Battle, Nya Bussey, Leah Bertrand) finished sixth overall (43.11) in the semifinals to advance to Saturday’s championships.

SEMIFINALS RESULTS

  • Jaydan Wood, Dayle, Alyssa Marsh and Bryannia Murphy finished 12th overall and third in their heat in the 4x400m relay (3:33.40).
  • Alexus Pyles finished 13th overall in the 100m hurdles with her second-fastest time of the season (13.07).
  • Nya Bussey led the Buckeyes in the 100m with a personal-best 11.23 to move her up to third in program history in the event and finish 16th Yanique Dayle matched her personal-best time of 11.24 to finish 17th. Battle rounded out OSU’s showing in 22nd (11.43).
  • In the 400m hurdles, C. Robinson finished 20th overall (58.96).

UP NEXT

The Buckeye men wrap up competition on Friday with the first event beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET (5:30 p.m. PT). Alexus Pyles will also begin the heptathlon on Friday at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT).
