Johnson to Serve as Men's Sprints/Hurdles Coach for USATF World Team


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – NC State track & field assistant coach Allen Johnson is set to serve as the sprints/hurdles assistant coach for the men’s USA Track & Field (USATF) World Championships team, as previously announced by the USATF.

The 2022 World Athletics Championships will run July 15-29, 2022 in Eugene, Ore.

Johnson joined the NC State staff in 2016 and handles coaching responsibilities for the Wolfpack’s sprints, hurdles and relays student-athletes. He has coached members of the Pack to five All-America honors and guided alumna Gabriele Cunningham to a spot on the 2020 USA Olympic Team. He has additionally led members of the Pack to five ACC individual titles alongside multiple All-ACC accolades.

A graduate of North Carolina, Johnson was the NCAA Outdoor Champion in the 55m hurdles and was the runner-up in the indoor 55m hurdles and outdoor 110m hurdles as a senior.  He totaled four ACC individual championships while he was in college, taking home conference titles twice in the indoor long jump and once in the outdoor long jump and 110m hurdles.

After graduation, Johnson earned a spot on the Olympic Team and competed in the 110m hurdles at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta where he won the gold medal. He competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney as well, placing fourth.
