Tech Heads to ACC Championships – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – After a successful regular season, the Georgia Tech cross country teams are headed to the ACC Championships. The conference meet will take place on Friday, Oct. 28 at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. The men will begin competition with an 8K race at 10:30 a.m. and the women’s 6K will follow at 11:30 a.m.

The ACC Championships will feature several high-ranking programs. The men will face No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 8 Wake Forest, No. 12 NC State, No. 13 Virginia, No. 16 Syracuse, No. 18 North Carolina and No. 29 Duke. The women are set to compete against No. 1 NC State, No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 15 Syracuse and No. 25 Virginia. In the current South Region rankings, the men hold the No. 7 spots and the women are ranked sixth.

At the 2021 ACC Championships, the women’s group finished eighth and the men came in 12th place. Tech alum, Nicole Fegans, was the only runner to earn All-ACC honors. However, the Jackets returned this year with many seasoned runners that could assist the program in improving on previous ACC performances.

Liz Galarza has proved to be the top performer for the women throughout this season. At several national meets, Galarza has consistently placed in the top five runners including third-place finishes at the North Alabama Showcase and Penn State National Open. Helena Lindsay and Kate Jortberg have also proved to be valuable additions to the women’s program.

The men’s team has been led by several different Jackets this season. Veteran runner, James Cragin has remained a part of Tech’s top performers this season. John Higinbotham recorded an exciting third-place finish at the North Alabama Showcase and Nick Nyman has contributed several top performances this season. Many members of the program have also continued to improve on their personal-best times in the 8K race.
