ANN ARBOR, Mich.Ameia Wilson won a pair of events to lead the University of Michigan women’s track and field team as it opened up its 2023 indoor season Saturday (Jan. 7) hosting the Wolverine Invitational at the U-M Indoor Track Building.

Wilson captured the top spot in the 60 meters in a time of 7.53 seconds and also finished first in the long jump, leaping 5.97m (19 feet, 7 inches) to set a meet record.

The Wolverines also got first-place finishes from Corinne Jemison, who launched a 15-meter (49 feet, 2.5 inch) throw in the shot put, and Riley Ammenhauser — the 2022 USATF U20 Championship bronze medalist — who finished the triple jump with a distance of 12.79m (41 feet, 11.5 inches). That jump was a personal best and set a meet record.

Michigan women also earned career bests Saturday, with standout performances from Theresa Mayanja and Clare McNamara. Mayanja cleared 1.63m (5 feet, 4.25 inches) in the high jump to finish third, one spot behind freshman Gabi Newman, who cleared a height of 1.68m (5 feet, 6 inches). Meanwhile, McNamara ended the day third in the shot put with a throw of 12.20m (40 feet, 0.5 inches).

Sam Tran earned a new career best in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:22.70, taking second in a grueling race comprised primarily of pro runners.

Up next for the Wolverines, they will play host to the Michigan Invitational next Saturday (Jan. 14) at the U-M Indoor Track Building. The start time for the meet is to be announced.
