Track Central: Bob Pollock Invitational / John Thomas Terrier Classic

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee track & field program gears up for another split weekend of competition, with 26 student-athletes returning to Clemson, South Carolina, for the Bob Pollock Invitational while a strong group of distance runner trek to Boston for the John Thomas Terrier Classic. Both meets run Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27-28.

Tennessee’s representatives at the Bob Pollock Invite feature 14 men and 12 women competing at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex, beginning with the women’s 60-meter dash prelims Friday at 1:10 p.m. and concluding Saturday at 3:35 p.m. with the men’s 4×400-meter relay.

At Boston University, three Vols will run in three events Friday night. Canaan Anderson and Yaseen Abdalla will look to lower their own school records in the mile and 3,000-meter run, respectively, while Dylan Jacobs is set to make his Tennessee track debut in the 5,000-meter. The Terrier Classic wraps up Saturday with six Lady Vols in action—Brooke Dixon in the mile and Msgana Araya, Jasmine Fehr, Kayla Gholar, Rachel Sutliff and Callie Tucker in the 3k.

LADY VOLS IN THE TOP 10: In the first release of the USTFCCCA Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI) earlier this week, the Lady Vols checked in at No. 9 in the NCAA Division I national rankings. A bulk of the Lady Vols’ points in the rating index are generated in the short sprints and horizontal jumps, as Jacious Sears, Joella Lloyd and Jonah Ross rank top-10 nationally in the 60-meter dash while Sears also sits seventh in the 200-meter. Graduate student Charisma Taylor also bolsters the Tennessee TFRI point total with top-10 national rankings in the long jump and 60-meter hurdles.

BIENVENUE À ROCKY TOP: After enrolling at Tennessee earlier this month, Clément Ducos is set to make his collegiate debut at Clemson in the indoor 400-meter dash. The Bordeaux, France, native won the French national title last winter with a lifetime-best 47.27 clocking in the indoor 400m.
