Badgers wrap up day two of weekend competition


MADISON, Wis. – The 17th-ranked Wisconsin women’s track and field team wrapped up its busy weekend on the road. Athletes competing in multi-events and jumps were at the Illini Challenge in Champaign, Illinois, while all other events competed at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Indiana. 

Illini Challenge

Grad student Armoni Brown started things our for the Badgers Saturday morning as she qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash, running 7.75 seconds. She ran the same time in the finals, which placed her in third overall. 

The only other event for the women at the Illini Challenge today was the pole vault. Sophomore Julia Moore took fourth, clearing 12 feet, 7 ½ inches, with three of her teammates finishing right behind her. Tia Dorshorst cleared 12-7 ½ to finish fifth while Lauren Bilau and Kenzi Kluge both cleared 12-1 ½, to place sixth and seventh, respectively. 

Indiana Relays

Top performances continued into day two of competition in Bloomington as UW once again placed five Badgers in the top 10 in a distance event.

In the mile, senior Madison Mooney led the pack as she placed third in 4:48.56. Lucinda Crouch came in right behind Mooney, taking fourth in 4:50.52. Kylie Finger was next for the Badgers, coming in fifth in 4:51.28. Sophomore Mya Bunke ran a personal best, finishing sixth in 4:52.62, while Victoria Heiligenthal rounded out the top 10 in 4:58.4. 

In the shot put, grad student Josie Schaefer threw a 57-7, which earned her a second-place finish. Redshirt freshman Danni Langseth recorded a personal best of 50-2 ½ for sixth place. 

Rounding UW’s top finishes was graduate student Danielle Bellino, who earned a place on the podium for the 800 meters, finishing third in 2:08.49. Maggie Munson also competed in the event, finishing in 2:12.84 for 12th place. 

In the 60 meters, freshman Rachel Robinson was the first Badger to cross the finish line in 7.81 for a sixth-place finish while junior Taylor Gilling crossed 7.85 for eighth place. 

Up Next

Select sprinters will be traveling to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Feb. 3-4. The Badger throwers travel north to Ripon, Wisconsin, for the Red Hawk Invitational on Feb. 4.
