Pentathletes Post High Scores In New Mexico


ALBUQUERQUE/SPOKANE — Colorado track and field kicked off a split weekend here with the sprinters, hurdlers and combined events athletes in action at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic while the throwers headed to the Washington State Open.
 
The highlight of the day came from Avery McMullen finishing second in a highly competitive pentathlon. McMullen, the CU school record holder in the event, scored 4,160 point. She picked up more than 1,000 of her points in the 60 hurdles, another event she owns the CU record in, running 8.32 seconds. She was the top collegiate athlete in both the hurdles and the long jump where she went 5.89 meters (19-4).
 
Also in the event, Jada Green finished fifth with a score of 3,741 points while freshman Eva Bruce was seventh scoring 3,608 points. Green was the second-best collegiate athlete in the shot put while Bruce was the fastest athlete in the 800 running 2:19.86.
 
The Buffs had other strong performance on the ladies’ side from Abbey Glynn in the invitational 400-meter dash, finishing 12th in 53.57 for her season opener. Kara Lucyk jumped 5.70 meters (18-8.5) in the long jump to finish 22nd, while on the men’s side Noah Bouchard had a top-20 finish in the high jump clearing 2.02 meters (6-7.5).
 
In Spokane, Tyler Sconce led the throws finishing third overall in the weight throw with a toss of 17.73 meters (58-2). Matt Ward finished close behind in sixth (17.19m | 56-4.75) while Isaiah Bouchard was seventh in 17.13 meters (56-2.5).
 
Action continues tomorrow with the 60 hurdles and 400s in New Mexico while the shot put gets underway in Spokane.
