Irish Set New School Records at Alex Wilson Invite – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Official Athletics Website

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame track and field team posted two new school records at the 2023 Alex Wilson Invitational. The meet was headlined with the distance medley relay events where the Fighting Irish women’s team took first place and a school record. The second school record of the day was posted by Michael Shoaf in the shot put.

The women’s distance medley relay team of Katie Thronson, Eve Balseiro, Katie Ryan, and Olivia Markezich posted a time of 10:50.41. The squad was only two seconds short of the all-time collegiate record, and with this time the team punched their ticket to the NCAA Indoor Championship.

Michael Shoaf posted a new school record in the shot put with a throw of 20.05m taking first place in the event. Teammate Henry Boudreau also competed in the shot put taking fourth place with a throw of 15.69m. In the men’s weight throw, Shoaf took second place with a throw of 19.85m. The Irish took third and fourth place too with throws from Blake Kusky (18.29) and Matthew Teague (17.16m).

In the women’s long jump Alaina Brady took third place with a jump of 5.76m. Reese Sanders also jumped for a mark of 5.04m. The women’s pole vault saw Olivia Fabry take second place with a mark of 3.65m. Alexandra Chlumsky took fourth place with a mark of 3.35m. In the high jump the Irish took first through fifth place. Taking first place was Madison Schmidt with a mark of 1.72m, Jadin O’Brien, Sarah Flight, Arianna Martinez, and Alaina Brady all hit marks with jumps of 1.67m each. Reese Sanders took seventh place with a jump of 1.52m.

In the women’s weight throw, Emma Albano took second place with a throw of 16.84m. In the shot put Alesis Juntunen took third place with a throw of 13.72, and Albano took fifth with a throw of 12.88m. Ava Butterbaugh threw for a mark of 12.86m for sixth place.

The men’s distance medley relay team of Daelen Ackley, Joey Dobrydney, Nick Miller, and CJ Singleton crossed the finish line at 9:35.21. In the men’s 3000 meter race Nick Mota took second place with a time of 8:14.31. Ryan Schumacher took fourth place with a time of 8:21.86.

Caroline Lehman took first place in the women’s 3000 meter with a time of 9:48.15. Isalina Colsman ran in the mile race for a time of 5:15.23. In the women’s 800 meter Molly Grant and Paige Grant took second and fourth, respectively. Molly ran for a time of 2:10.77 and Paige for a time of 2:11.38.
