UT’s Seven Victories Highlight Final Day Of Tennessee Invite

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee track & field wrapped up its annual home meet with seven event wins on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Tom Black Track. Showing out at its home facility, the Big Orange totaled 11 victories over the course of the newly branded 2023 Tennessee Invite.

After logging the program’s No. 7 all-time wind legal mark at 13.36 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles semifinals, graduate student Charisma Taylor won the event final with a slightly wind-aided (+2.4 m/s) time of 13.34 in her first home meet as a Lady Vol.

On the men’s side, Tennessee posted its second clean sweep of the weekend as Devon Brooks, Rasheem Brown and Jesse Henderson posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 110-meter hurdles final with times of 13.51, 13.77 and 13.92, respectively. The Vols dominated the hurdle events at their home meet with another podium sweep on Friday night in the 400-meter hurdles final from Jakwan Hale, Clement Ducos and Rasheeme Griffith.

A pair of Lady Vol sprinters reigned victorious on Saturday as well, with Jonah Ross (11.93) and Uchechi Nwogwugwu (55.34) crossing the finish line first in the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes.

In the men’s triple jump competition, the Vols put up a 1-2 performance with redshirt sophomore Garison Breeding taking the victory in his Tennessee home meet debut. UT junior Elliot Barner also saw action at Tom Black Track for the first time and came away with a second-place outing for the Vols.

UT had a pair of wins in Saturday’s relay events, kicking off with the men’s 4×100-meter as T’Mars McCallum, Emmanuel Bynum, Nigel Green and Javonte Harding battled the conditions for a dominant 39.90 winning effort. As the meet began to wind down, the Lady Vol 4×400-meter quartet of Uchechi Nwogwugwu, Kyla Robinson-Hubbard, Nicole Sreenan and Mia O’Neil secured a victory with their clocking of 3:43.02.
