Vilches, Rivera Garner SEC Honors

COLUMBIA, Mo. –  University of Missouri Track and Field seniors Roberto Vilches and Sophia Rivera have been named to all All-SEC Teams as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Vilches claimed first-team honors after topping the podium in the high jump, clearing 2.21m (7-3.0) at the conference championships last week. Rivera appeared on the second following a silver medal in the javelin with a mark of 55.98m (183-8).

It is the first outdoor All-Conference selection for Vilches who claims five career All-American honors. The Mexico City, Mexico native, notched a second-team selection following his performance at the indoor championships in February.

The senior ranks second on Missouri’s all-time high jump leaderboard as he cleared 2.27m (7-5.25) in the event at the Mizzou Spring Opener on April 6, 2019.

For Rivera, it is the second consecutive All-SEC nod after she claimed second place in the javelin and the third spot in the discus a season ago.

A member of the Puerto Rican national team and a 2022 All-American, Rivera set the school record in the javelin with a throw of 57.67m (189-2.0) at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on March 17.

Vilches and Rivera will continue their respective seasons at the NCAA West Prelims from May 24-27 in Sacramento, Calif.
