Track & Field’s Jalani Davis Wins NACAC U23 Silver Medal in Shot Put

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Ole Miss track & field All-American senior Jalani Davis claimed her first career international medal, taking silver in the women’s shot put at the first day of action at the U23 North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championships (NACAC) on Friday in Costa Rica.

Davis, who is coming off a superb 2022 campaign with the Rebels that saw her claim the NCAA Indoor title in the weight throw, won silver on her opening toss of 17.20m/56-05.25. Davis is doubling for Team USA in Costa Rica this weekend, as she is also set to compete in the women’s hammer on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. CT.

Davis will also represent Team USA at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest next month after a third-place finish in the shot put at the U.S. Championships earlier this month.

Davis will enter her final campaign with the Rebels in 2024 with an impressive career line that includes an NCAA title, five All-America awards, 13 career NCAA points, seven SEC medals and 76 career SEC points. This past indoor season, Davis became the first woman in world history to break both 60 feet in the shot put and 80 feet in the weight throw.
