Cross Country Heads to Kennesaw State for Season Opener – Men's Cross Country — Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATSThe Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to begin their season on Friday, Sept. 1 at Kennesaw State’s Stan Sims Opener. The men and women will both compete in the 5k race, with the men set to begin at 6:30 pm followed by the woman at 7:00 pm. The races will take place at Allatoona Creek Park XC Course in Acworth, Ga. Spectator parking is located at 5690 Old Stilesboro Rd NW, Acworth, GA 30101. 

Both teams concluded the 2022 season at the NCAA Division I South Region Championships. Notable returners for the Yellow Jackets include Mary Brady and Kate Jortberg on the women’s side along with Zach Jaeger and Nick Nyman for the men’s squad, among others. 

At the 2022 season opener, the Yellow Jackets dominated the competition as both teams achieved first-place finishes. Nick Nyman led the men’s 8k race and former Yellow Jacket Liz Galarza took home first-place in the women’s 6k race followed by Lindsay, Jortberg, and Brady.  

Georgia Tech men’s cross country returns all but nine runners from the team last year while adding four new additions to the roster. On the women’s side, all but seven runners return to the team, and they add eight new runners. Among those eight new additions Georgia Tech welcomes grad-transfer Grace Driskill; Driskill comes to The Flats from Arizona.
