Gators Travel to Tallahassee for FSU Cross Country Invitational


Florida sends a total of twenty-two athletes between the Men’s and Women’s teams.

 

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – With one meet in their rearview mirror, the Florida Gators Cross Country teams continue their 2023 season on Friday as they travel north to Tallahassee to take part in the Florida State University Cross Country Invitational.
 
The Gators make their return to Tallahassee after not competing there since 2021 Pre-Nationals. The last time that Florida participated in the FSU XC Invitational was just a year prior: 2020.
 
This contest marks the second of the Gators season and the first meet away from home.
 
Competition will begin at 7:40 a.m. ET with the men racing in the 8k and will continue at 8:15 a.m. ET with the women participating in the 5k.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Two weeks ago, the Florida Gators began their season on their home turf as they welcomed colleges to the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.
 
The men competed in an 8k race and placed third as they collected 117 points. The Gators top five finishers included Joe Wester, Ethan Geiger, Javi Vento, Josh Stern, and Orlando Cicilioni.
 
The women’s team recorded a first place finish as they totaled 38 points in the three-mile race. Allison Wilson, Liina Winborn, Vasileia Spyrou, Rylee Pustilnik and Olivia Jones all contributed points toward the total.
 
PARTICIPATING GATORS
Florida will be sending eleven men and women to the course this weekend.
 
Seven of the eleven men will compete for the second meet in a row while the remaining (Josh King, Adam Magoulas, Matt Mule’ and Aiden Villasuso) will make their 2023 debut.
 
The women share a similar sentiment. Nine of the eleven will race for their second meet in 2023 while Lucinda Rourke and Jordan Shapiro will appear for the first time.

PARTICIPATING TEAMS
Florida State is welcoming both colleges and independent running clubs and groups to compete in the events. There will be thirty-eight teams competing on the men’s side while the women will face off against forty teams.
