Hokies place third at Upstate Invite

SPARTANBURG, S.C. and CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.  –  Virginia Tech’s Ben Nagel scored sixth (24:34.3) in the men’s 8k in Spartanburg, S.C. leading the men’s team to a third place finish at the Upstate Invite with 95 points. 

Freshman Garrett Winter crossed the finish line second for the Hokies scoring 10th with a personal-best time of 24:45.6. Bryce Reeburgh scored 17th as he turned in a time of 25:04.3, followed by Will Jones scoring 28th (25:26.6) and Andrew Schroff scoring 34th (25:33.6). 

Freshman Kylie Bonser clocked in first the Virginia Tech women’s team with a personal-best time of 17:49.7 (18th). Junior Kenza Elakari was next to cross the finish line for the Hokies recording a time of 17:57.0, followed by Sarah Leach in 25th with a personal-best time of 17:58.2. Star Price (18:27.2) and Ellie Pence (19:08.2) rounded out the team’s score in 38th and 85th, respectively. 

In Charlottesville, the men’s team finished ninth with Declan Rymer leading the way scoring 34th with a personal-best time of 23:55.5. Viktor Idhammar stopped the clock at 24:15.5 scoring 56th, followed by Arnav Tikhe scoring 61st (24.17.6) and Ethan Coleman 86th (24:29.3). Trevor Mason wrapped up the day for the Hokies scoring 87th (24:29.4). 

Senior Lindsey Butler recorded a season-best time of 20:48.4 in the women’s 6k, scoring 36th for the Hokies. Hannah Ballowe crossed the line next scoring 55th with a time of 21:04.9, followed by Mary Kate McGranahan clocking in at 21:11.5 (63) and Lila Waters at 21:39.1 (107). Ava Hassebrock rounded out the team’s score in 112th (21.43.3).
