Whittaker, the 2023 Pac-12 outdoor 800 champion and NCAA indoor runner-up, took over from the pacer with one lap of the 307-meter track to go and won by more than six seconds. The race marked her season debut.
Whittaker and fellow sophomore Roisin Willis gave Stanford its victories in Seattle. Willis, in her first race of the new season, won the 400 in 53.56 – placing her No. 5 on Stanford’s all-time indoor list. Willis, the reigning NCAA indoor 800 champ, also was a member of the gold medal-winning 4×400 team at the 2022 World Under-20 Championships.
Reigning NCAA outdoor 5,000 and 10,000 champion Ky Robinson ran two races. He opened by finishing as the top collegian and placing third overall in the mile at 4:00.50. Robinson followed by placing 10th in the 1,000 in 2:25.61.
Pac-12 cross country champion Amy Bunnage, a freshman, made her collegiate track debut. She was the top collegian in the 3,000, finishing fourth overall in 9:03.21. The time made her No. 3 on Stanford’s all-time freshmen list.
