Brown Wins with Lifetime Best

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Two-time All-American Garrett Brown set a lifetime best while winning the pole vault at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational indoor track and field meet Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Brown jumped 18-3 ¼ (5.57 meters) to improve upon his best of 18-3 — achieved while placing eighth at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships at the same facility — and strengthen his spot at No. 3 on Stanford’s all-time indoor list.

Brown opened at 16-2 ½ (4.94m) and cleared his first five heights on his first try. He made 18-3 ¼ on his second attempt, having long won the competition, and had three tries at an indoor school record of 18-5. Graeme Hoste set the Stanford indoor standard of 18-4 ¾ (5.61m) in 2008.

Another Stanford pole vaulter jumped into the top-10 list: Lianne Kistler, who cleared a collegiate best 13-0 ¼ (3.97m) while placing seventh in the women’s competition. Her third-try clearance placed her into a tie for No. 8 on Stanford’s all-time indoor list.

In the women’s long jump, Tess Stapleton achieved a personal best of 19-11 ½ (6.08m) while finishing eighth. It was the second lifetime best of the indoor season for Stapleton and her third meet in as many tries over 19 feet.

Stanford next travels to Boston where the Cardinal will split its squad for the John Thomas Terrier Classic and River Hawk Invitational.
