MEET RECORDS

The Naugatuck Valley Conference held their indoor championship last Friday evening at Floyd Little Athletic Center with Naugatuck High again sweeping the boys and girls titles.

Boys Championship

The Naugatuck boys captured the team title by a score of 143-67 over Waterbury Career Academy while Derby was only 12 points behind in third place. The Greyhounds were led by Jason Costa who scored a victory in 3200m after placing second in both the 1000m and 1600m runs behind double winner Sam Ambrocio of Woodland.

Zachary McCasland claimed the 600m title in his PR of 1:28.17. More victories came in the relays as Naugatuck scored 36 of 40 points. The 4x200m team of Runner Anur, Jaiden Roach, Daniel Anderson and Chance Lewis ran a season best of 1:35.90 for first place that was followed by another first place in the 4x800m from Adin Hasipi, Joseph Cervone, Keniel Scale and Zachary McCasland. Naugatuck capped the evening with a final win in the 4x400m from the quartet of Jaiden Roach, Runner Anur, Zachary McCasland and Yamil Negron.

Lucas Figueiredo of Waterbury Career Academy sped to a new meet record in the 300m in 36.42. Derby’s Byron McLean blazed to his PR in the 55m hurdles winning his third consecutive title in 7.71, a CT #5 this season.

Girls Championship

The chase for the team title was marked by several meet records as sophomore Lauren Kropo’s meet record in the 300m of 41.16 led Naugatuck to 140.5 to 83 point margin over runner-up Watertown with 83 points.

Kropo placed second to Kennedy’s Erica Austin who blazed to a meet record in the prelims of the 55m dash in 7.17. Austin and Kropo finished 1-2 in the finals in 7.20 and 7.29 respectively.

Austin had previously anchored Kennedy’s 4x200m to a win in a meet record time of 1:50.89 breaking the former 2010 time by Holy Cross. Joining Austin were Kaianni Jones, Shania McCall and Jasmine Ogando

The final meet record was set by Autumn Bacik of Watertown as she cleared 10-3 in the pole vault that eclipsed the former mark of 10-0 by Torrington’s Daniela Ponte.

Woodland’s Faye Carnemolla was a double event winner in the 1600m and 1000m.
