Schweizer, Burnett Log Program Top-10 Results During Second Day Of Music City Challenge


NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Junior Kelsey Schweizer and senior Alicia Burnett each registered top-10 all-time program performances in their respective events, as nine Tigers earned a top-10 finish in their events on day two of the Music City Challenge on Saturday. At the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, jumpers Claudina Diaz and Sterling Scott each posted a top-10 result.

Schweizer ran the women’s 800m in 2:06.29, marking the fifth-best performance in program history, while Burnett completed the women’s 400m in 55.00 which was good for sixth all-time in the Mizzou indoor record books. Adding to the Tigers’ success was junior Rece Rowan, who won his second consecutive men’s shot put event with a throw of 17.26m.

Multiple Tigers also set new personal-bests, starting with sophomore Kaia Downs in the women’s 3000m with a time of 9:58.79. Junior Quentin Worley and graduate student Eddie Zuercher followed suit by setting new bests in the men’s 3000m with times of 8:17.63 and 8:18.10 respectively.

Later, sophomore Andrew Simard notched a personal-record in the men’s 800m, running a 1:50.89 and graduate student Mikayla Reed finished the group of personal-highs with a 9:36.91 in the women’s 3000m.

Down in Fayetteville, Scott placed 10th in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 15.01m, while Diaz tied for fourth with a 1.76m result in the high jump.

The Tigers will prepare for the SEC Indoor Championships, taking place in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Feb. 23-24.
