Track and Field Continues Success with 10-Win Weekend


HARRISONBURG, Va. – Michigan State Track and Field wrapped up a full weekend of action with 10 victories at the JMU Invite Saturday while three Spartans from the women’s distance team competed at the highly-touted Bryan Clay Invite.
 
Representing the green and white at the Bryan Clay Invite in Azusa, Calif. was junior Kate Stewart-Barnett in the 3000m Steeplechase Thursday, graduate student Katie Osika in the 5000m Friday and graduate student Lauren Freeland in the 1500m Saturday.
 
Weekend Highlights

  • Stewart-Barnett kicked things off with a PR and DI third place finish in the Bryan Clay 3000m with a 9:48.22 heat win.
  • Osika finished second in her 5000m invite heat at Bryan Clay Friday, crossing the line in 15:39.01 a personal best by nearly 25 seconds.
  • At the JMU Invite, sophomore Colby Morlock dominated the throws, winning both the hammer throw (59.54m) and the shot put (18.37m).
  • Senior Logan Allen recorded a 14.49s PR en route to a win the 110m hurdles.
  • Senior Kaia Scheffler recorded her second win in as many competitions, taking the 100m hurdles title in 13.70s.
  • Sophomore Brady Schultz logged a high jump win with a regional-qualifying 2.09m clearance.
  • Also collecting her second straight win was sophomore Korin Whitcomb, topping the high jump at 1.96m.
  • Junior Noah Sage recorded his second sub-47 second 400m time of the season, winning the event yet falling just shy of his 46.36 PR again.
  • Freshman Jessica Stieb continued her promising collegiate start, winning the women’s shot.
  • The Spartan Women’s 4x100m relay team – comprised of Liz Anderson, Melanie Macias, Anyssa Hall and Lexy Wilson – won with a time of 45.78s.
  • The MSU Men’s 4x400m squad collected a win of their own, as Sage, Alex Yon, Ben Classen and Tee Muex combined for a 3:14.20 victory.
