Trojans Host USC-UCLA Dual Meet This Weekend

The USC Track and field team will be hosting the annual USC-UCLA Dual Meet to be held at Allyson Felix Field at Loker Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. on April 28 beginning at 11 a.m..  The men’s and women’s hammer throw and discus throw competitions will be held at the Colich Throws Center in Wilmington, Calif. on April 27, beginning at noon..The Trojan men are currently ranked No. 6 and the women No. 19 in the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association poll (USTFCCCA).

The two teams split the 2023 Dual Meet with USC’s women winning 88-75 and the Trojan men falling 88-70.  USC’s women’s team ran its winning streak to nine over the Bruins in the annual battle and the Trojans have swept four of the last nine meetings between the two schools.  USC’s men lead its all-time series with UCLA 46-43, while the women’s team trails 22-17.

The USC women’s team has dominated the sprints of late, winning a combined 26 of the last 27 100m, 200m and 400m races since 2014.  Also, a USC women’s athlete has won each of the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles races during the nine-season winning streak.  The USC men have dominated the sprints even more, winning 32 of the last 33 100m, 200m and 400m races since the 2012 season.  A USC male athlete has won the 400m title at 16 consecutive Dual Meets.

Current Trojans ranked in the NCAA top 25 in an event are: (Women) – Jassani Carter (16 – 100m, 22 – 200m), Yemi John (16 – 400m), Jan’Taijah Jones (13 – 400m), Christine M. Mallard (20 – 100m, 24 – 200m), Temi Ojora (2 – TJ, 17 – HJ), Rae-Anne Serville (25 – 400m H), Jalaysiya Smith (21 – 100m H), Madison Whyte (17 – 400m), Sara Zabarino (22 – JT), the 4x100m relay (9) and the 4x400m relay (12). (Men) – Johnnie Blockburger (5 – 200m, 10 – 400m), Johnny Brackins Jr. (22 – 110m H), Racquil Broderick (4 – DT), Gavin Champ (11 – TJ), Leif Nelson (17 – JT), Nikolaos Polychroniou (7 – HT), JC Stevenson (1 – LJ), Max Thomas (13 – 200m) and the 4x100m relay (3).

The 25th/50th year team recognitions will take place at 11:25 a.m. The meet will also be streamed live on USCTrojans.com.
