Nugent, Spiegel Named PNC Achievers of the Week


PITTSBURGH –Track & Field’s Devin Nugent and Baseball’s Josh Spiegel were named this week’s PNC Achievers of the Week. 

Devin Nugent became the second Panther to ever win the 400 hurdles at Penn Relays after his 50.84 second, first place performance at the historic meet. Nugent’s time is a new personal best and currently ranks 28th in the country in the event. 

After a fourth-place performance at ACC Championships as a freshman a year ago, Nugent will look to go for the title when the Panthers travel to the 2024 ACC Championships May 9-11.

Josh Spiegel hit .778 with seven hits, two home runs, four RBI and collected two three-hit games in their series win over Bryant this weekend. Spiegel went 3-3 with three RBI and two runs scored in Friday’s series opener, hitting a stand up RBI triple in the eighth inning and a  two-run home run in the ninth. The graduate student continued his hot streak in Sunday’s series finale, recording his second three-hit game of the series and hitting his sixth home run of the year. He has hit five home runs in his last eight games. In Pitt’s last four home games, the Pittsburgh, PA native is 11-13 with three home runs and nine RBI.
