Waddell Wins Women’s Hammer Throw at Liberty Twilight Qualifier


LYNCHBURG, Va. – Competing in the final meet of the 2023-24 regular season, Duke track and field closed the outdoor campaign in style as the Blue Devils posted a win in the women’s hammer throw via graduate student Zoe Waddell, while also earning additional top-five placements behind the efforts of classmates McKenzie Duwenhoegger and Myles Schreck.
 
TOP PERFORMANCES

  • Graduate student Zoe Waddell capped the outdoor regular season on a high note grabbing her fifth top-five placement of the year via a win in the women’s hammer throw.
  • Waddell came through with her best effort on the fifth throw of the competition as she launched the hammer 58.20m (190-11 feet), claiming the victory by over eight feet.
  • Classmate McKenzie Duwenhoegger also took part in the women’s hammer throw and placed third behind a personal-best throw of 54.77m (179-8 feet).
  • Over in the men’s hammer throw, Myles Schreck was the lone Duke representative with the graduate student taking second to earn his third top-five placement and second in as many weeks. Stepping into the cage for his second attempt, Schreck flung the hammer 58.39m (191-7 feet) to lock up the runner-up finish.
