Indian athletes focused to secure Paris Olympic Games relay berth in Bahamas « Athletics Federation of India

The core group of 400m runners are all set to compete at the weekend’s World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, a qualifying event for the Paris Olympic Games. In preparation for the World Relays, the Indian team has been practicing in the Bahamas for the past four weeks, chief athletics coach Radhakrishnan Nair said. “We are confident of a good show at the World Relays,” the chief athletics coach added.

The two-day World Relays on Saturday and Sunday at Nassau’s Thomas A Robinson Stadium will witness global and Olympic champions in action. The World Relays will be the first global event that offers Paris Olympic Games qualification berths.

The Indian team will compete in men’s 4x400m relay; women’s 4x400m relay and mixed 4x400m relay.

The Indian men’s 4x400m relay team is clubbed in the first heat. Australia, Dominican Republic, Barbados, Botswana, South Africa, France and Spain are the other teams in fray. Top two teams will earn a place in the Sunday final.

The men’s 4x400m relay team had twice shattered the Asian record on their way to fifth place finish at the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships. The national men’s team also won gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

Indian team’s best time in 2023 was 2:59.05 while season best is 3:05.71.

The mixed 4x400m relay team is grouped in heat 2 with Hungary, Italy, Bahrain, Nigeria, USA and South Africa.

The women’s 4x400m relay team is clubbed with Zambia, Switzerland, Canada, Italy, Netherlands and Australia. The team has a season best time of 3:31.85

Women’s 4x400m: Jyothika Sri Dandi, MR Poovamma, Aishwarya Mishra, Prachi, Vithya Ramraj, Rupal, Subha Venkatesan

Mixed 4x400m: Jyothika Sri Dandi, Amoj Jacob, Rajesh Ramesh, Vithya Ramraj, Rupal, Yashas Palaksha.
