ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Begin in Atlanta on Thursday

ATLANTA, Ga. (theACC.com) – After an eight-week regular season, all 15 Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field programs will descend upon the George C. Griffin Track and Field Complex in Atlanta, Georgia, for the 2024 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Events will begin on Thursday, May 9, and run through Saturday, May 11. All three days of action will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.

Seven ACC track and field programs are ranked to begin the conference championships. The Virginia Tech men lead all ACC programs as the No. 9 team in the country. The Hokies are followed by No. 16 North Carolina, No. 19 Virginia and No. 23 Miami. Notre Dame leads the three ranked ACC women’s teams at No. 14, while No. 17 Florida State and No. 22 Virginia Tech round out the grouping.

Clemson won its 12th ACC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship, and first since 2004, under head coach Mark Elliott in 2023. The Tigers’ final score of 92 placed one point ahead of Florida State (91), and 2½ ahead of Louisville and Virginia (89.5). Virginia Tech placed fifth at 84.5.

On the women’s side, Duke continued its run of recent success by winning the ACC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 2023. The Blue Devils’ 61-point margin of victory was the largest since the ACC expanded to 15 institutions. Duke final score of 145.5 topped the field as they blew past runner-up Virginia Tech (84.5), Miami (83), Florida State (78) and fifth-place Virginia (76.5)
