Track Central: 2024 SEC Outdoor Championships


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Outdoor postseason gets underway this week for Tennessee track & field as more than 50 UT athletes have traveled to Gainesville, Florida, for the 2024 SEC Outdoor Championships. The conference meet runs Thursday through Saturday, May 9-11 at the University of Florida’s James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track.
 
The meet kicks off for Tennessee with freshman Kevin Burr Jr. competing in the men’s javelin at 4:45 p.m. ET on Thursday. Running events start on the track at 5:30 p.m. with Carter Knox and Michael Rodriguez-King competing in the men’s 800-meter prelims. The first finals of the meet will take place Thursday night with the men’s and women’s 10,000-meter at 7:40 and 8:15 p.m., respectively.
 
Day two begins at 4:30 p.m. with Ellison Colarossi, Kendall Ford, Sarah Schmitt and Caroline Weems in the women’s pole vault and Grant Campbell in the men’s high jump. Running prelims continue in the evening, beginning at 5 p.m. with two Vols on the track for the men’s 110-meter hurdles. The men’s and women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase finals are respectively set for Friday at 8:00 and 8:20 p.m.
 
The conference championships will wrap up Saturday, starting at 3 p.m. with Tennessee rookies Aron Alvarez Aranda and Seth Apple representing UT in the men’s discus throw. Running finals start at approximately 6:05 p.m. with the men’s 4×100-meter relay and conclude with the women’s 4×400-meter relay at 9:40 p.m.
 
Second-year head coach Duane Ross leads Tennessee into battle with a pair of top-15 squads, with the Lady Vols ranked 10th and the Vols No. 14 in the latest release of the USTFCCCA national track & field rating index. The UT men and women are both slotted No. 5 in the coaches’ association SEC power index released on Tuesday.
 
FOLLOW LIVE: The 2024 SEC Outdoor Championships will be streamed online all three days via SEC Network+, available at espn.com/watch or the ESPN app. Saturday’s evening session will be televised on SEC Network. The broadcast crew includes Dwight Stones, Dan O’Brien, Larra Overton and Fernando Paloma.
