Hammer Specialist One Of Several Cal Throwers Competing This Summer

EUGENE, Ore. – California track & field rising sophomore Adrianna Coleman competed in her second straight USA Track & Field (USATF) U20 Championships on Wednesday, going toe-to-toe once again with the nation’s best young hammer throwers on a fine afternoon at Hayward Field.

After three tosses of the hammer, Coleman sat in fourth place, earning another three attempts; at the end of all six, she remained in fourth, with her second mark of 55.72m (182-9) standing as her best in the competition.

Jordan Koskondy, who currently throws for Illinois, won the competition with a personal-best 60.56m (198-8), followed by high schooler Kimberly Beard (56.86m/186-6) and USC’s Jenna Gallaway (56.63m/185-9).

Cal will have several more representatives competing in their respective national championships in the following weeks, with those athletes hoping to qualify for a spot on their country’s Olympic Team. The first of those meets – the U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field – begins on June 21.
