It’s a special summer for athletics in Scotland with the Olympics in Paris marking 100 years since the great Eric Liddell won gold.

And, to help celebrate that historic achievement and inspire folk to get out running, entries are now open for the jogscotland Eric Liddell Big 100 virtual run – over 5k.

Proceeds from your virtual run will help two very worth causes – the Eric Liddell Community and our mental health charity partner SAMH.

Entry is set at £8.99 with 10 percent of that going to each of these two charities.

Sign up and complete your 5K however you choose – walk, jog, run, do it all at once or in stages. We’re open for runs to take place through July and August.

The Eric Liddell Big 100 is our way to recognise and celebrate the life, sporting and community service achievements of one of Scotland’s iconic figures.

The Eric Liddell Community is an Edinburgh based charity that enhances the health and wellbeing of people by reducing isolation and loneliness.

Eric Henry Liddell was a Scottish sprinter, rugby player and Christian missionary. He won a gold medal in the 400m and bronze in the 200m the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris.

SAMH operates over 70 services in communities across Scotland, providing mental health social care support, addictions and employment services, among others.

They also work in partnership with jogscotland to support our work getting Scotland active, improving the physical and mental health of the nation, and particularly in supporting our wonderful jog leaders, who make the magic happen.

You don’t have to be a jogscotland member to take part in the Eric Liddell 100 Virtual 5k – just line up with your pals and start running!
