Waskom Named West Region's Best

SEATTLE — For the second time in his career, two-time NCAA Champion Joe Waskom has been named the USTFCCCA West Region Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. Waskom, who captured the NCAA title in the 1,500-meters on June 7 in Eugene, also won the honor in 2022 after winning his first national title.

Waskom’s West Region award makes a clean sweep for the Huskies indoors and outdoors, as Luke Houser won the Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year award back in March. Waskom’s thrilling rally on the outside to grab the 1,500m title at Hayward Field made it five-straight championships for the Huskies in the 1,500-meters (outdoors) and the mile (indoors).

The senior from Snoqualmie also added to his résumé by winning the Pac-12 steeplechase title this season, to help Washington win its second-straight men’s team title.

He closes his collegiate career as a seven-time First Team All-American and next stop will be a professional contract and the U.S. Olympic Trials.
