Scotland international high jumper Will Grimsey has retired from the sport after a fine career – 2024 season.
The 27-year-old feels the time is right to pursue other aspects of his life but has not ruled out a return in the future as a coach.
Will won the British title a few weeks ago in Manchester after also winning at the Loughborough International. He bowed out on a high with a 2.22m clearance in London last weekend to make third on the Diamond League podium.
Everyone at scottishathletics would like to thank Will for his efforts in recent years and wish him all the best for the next chapter.
‘Finishing my career as the British Champion coming home third in a home Diamond League,’ he said.
‘I have thrown everything I have at this sport and I have nothing left to give. I am looking forward to what’s next away from the track. I will maybe look at some coaching in the future but first will have a complete break from athletics.
‘To those of you who have supported me through the last few years, you know who you are and I am eternally grateful.’

At the other end of the career spectrum in many ways, Oliver MacDonald made his GB and NI international debut at the Euro U18 Champs in Slovakia.
The Giffnock North AC athlete raced in the 3000m final on Sunday morning and came home in 18th place in a time of 8:37.64.
Well done to Oliver – and his coach, family and club – on representing GB and NI and hopefully the experience will stand him in good stead for the future.
